Pastor Mark Driscoll has been talking about this book, "God, Marriage and Family", in several of his sermons. So i decided to read it.
It is written by Andreas J. Kostenberger, who also, along with his wife, happens to be good acquaintances of my sister Monica. She's had dinner with both he and his wife and says they are such wonderful people.
It, along with "Rediscovering Biblical manhood and womanhood" by John Piper and Wayne Grudem, are two of the most respected books (by a great number of theologians/ministers such as J.I. Packer, Mark Dever, Grudem, Piper, etc...) on the subject.
Its definitely not written with the intention of keeping the reader entertained, which in some ways i appreciate, it is however, thoroughly Biblical (scripture references Everywhere) and seems to 'spot on' so far. I'm about 1/4 of the way through at the moment.
I'm so thankful that God has not left us in the dark when it comes to subjects such as what it means to be a man, a woman, what our roles are...and aren't in the family, Church, in life..., how to have a Godly family, to have a pure marriage, to know what to believe on things like sex, having children, singleness, homosexuality, and how to love one's wife/husband as God intended...with complete faithfulness, loyalty and loving devotion.
At a time when our society is attempting to redefine the standards and values of marriage and family, Kostenberger brings us back to the Biblical foundation. God is not silent concerning these things and this book unpacks that very fact. So far I highly recommend it. ; )
You can write a blurb for me any day!
